Anymore.

I've seen a back like yours before
walking away
Those shoulders don't seem so broad from
this distance
I thought your arms were stronger
than that
Your gait seems a bit askew
but maybe
Maybe it's because I just don't
like you
Anymore.

That woman won't wait

You know she's a shape-shifter
a gypsy, a drifter
She can lie beside a lion
and look like the meanest lamb
She can wade through the swiftest river
and not lose a breath
She's green in a meadow
and violent at high tide
She'll surround you like a gust of wind
and warm you like a summer sun
But she won't wait
that woman won't wait

Not a moment longer

You don't love me, darlin'
You just liked the look of me once
Maybe twice
You liked my skin, lips, and
the way my voice dropped when
I spoke too close to your ear

You don't love me, sir
You just liked the way my thighs
cradled your hips and how
my looks made you forget your day
Filled your ego
and made you feel like a man

You don't love me, boy
You just liked to see a pretty face
on your pillow in the morning
Much like a trophy on your shelf
or a medal around your neck
Shiny and silent

You don't love me, friend
You just liked the idea of me
wrapped around you for as
long as you chose
and not a moment
longer

Just on time

Why should I trust the hands of time?
With my son the seconds move too fast.
With my heart I'm always walking around
in the wrong month-a year too late-a week too soon.

Why should I trust history?
Give me one good prophecy.
Let me lay where sun-sky-land become one.
Where there is no waiting- no gap.

Just the inhaling of a linear moment
where blue-green-orange-red
and my eye aren't too late.
No, just on time.

Someone Else's Sweater

I didn't sew my life like this,
but I'll wear it anyway.
If you don't like the way it fits,
well, honey, find another skirt.
I'm a woman in pants, low shoes,
opinions, and blues.
I work, play, speak, and sing
in one fashion: out loud.
Maybe that's not your style-
maybe it makes you uncomfortable.
If that's the case, just look.
Don't touch. Don't try me on.
There are plenty of buttons
for you to fondle
on someone else's sweater.

Stranger

You didn't pick me
and that's fine, darling.
Someone else will count
my freckles, trace my lines
with fingers most deserving.

You glanced away
and that's ok, dear.
Someone else will light
my dark eyes with
his warm gaze.

You forgot my voice
and I don't mind, love.
Someone else waits for
my whispers to reach
his longing ears.

You walked right past
and I let you.
I won't run after shadows
or chase your ghost,
stranger.

Let me find you

Let me find you in some other vessel
disguised in different eyes
masked in different skin

Let me find you in some other soul
one that still matches mine
that fits the hollows

Let me find you in some other place
and let the path be lit
with perfect timing
